About The Diary of a Failed Musician

Thirty-Thirty Coffee Co., Peoria, IL. circa 2013

Diary of a Failed Musician is a weekly investigation about what it means to be a musician and songwriter.

My name is Brian J. N. Davis —a writer/musician multi-class from Illinois. I have written books and songs for about fifteen years, rarely achieving what one might consider “success” beyond the actual completing of things. I publish songs under A Metropolitan Guide, and have two books: The Grand Revolution of Lakeside (2023), and A Link to the Past: Stories of Growing Up Gamer (2014).

My hope is that these investigations might be insightful, informative, and funny enough to warrant a public stage, rather than a private one. Part song journal, part toolkit, part dork: Welcome to The Diary of a Failed Musician.
